Professor René Adam

René Adam is Head of the Hepato-Biliary Surgery, Cancer and Transplantation Unit at Paul Brousse Hospital, Villejuif, France. Since 1994, he has held the position of Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine Kremlin Bicêtre at Paris South University, Paris.

Professor Adam’s main fields of activity and research are surgery of the liver, biliary tract and pancreas, and hepatic transplantation. He is particularly involved in the treatment of primary and secondary liver tumors especially by combination of chemotherapy and surgery. He is head of the Research team of Inserm Unit 935, "Chronotherapy of cancers and optimization of postoperative liver function"

Professor Adam is General Manager of the European Liver Transplant Registry and the international Registry of Colorectal Liver Metastases, LiverMetsurvey that he founded in 2005. He has been General Secretary and Treasurer of the European Surgical Association (ESA), co-editor of the HPB section of The Oncologist and member of the board of the European Liver and Intestine Transplant Association (ELITA), and Treasurer of the French Association of Surgery.

He is also President of the French association of HPB Surgery as well as Chair of the Research committee of the IHPBA (International Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association) and member of several international societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT).

He has made around 810 scientific communications at congress, has delivered 630 lectures as invited speaker on international meetings around the world, and has published 407 peer-reviewed articles with a PubMed H-index of 78 and more than 24,000 citations to date.
