Situated 12 kilometres outside the city, Bilbao international airport known as “La Paloma” is the air transport hub for Spain’s northern peninsula, with flights to the main Spanish cities and major European destinations, served by major airlines as well as low-cost companies.

The airport connects Bilbao with European cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Lisbon, London, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome, Stuttgart, Venice, Zurich and with main Spanish cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Valencia.

BY TRAIN

The Bilbao-Abando station is the departure and arrival point for Renfe long-distance trains, offering daily services to Madrid and Barcelona and connections to La Coruña, Burgos, León, Logroño, Málaga, Salamanca, Segovia, Valladolid, Vigo and Zaragoza.

Renfe Spain Pass allows non-residents to travel around Spain by train and it can be used on all AVE long-distance and mid-distance high-speed trains. The pass is valid for one month from the first trip and comes in two formats (Business/Club and Tourist). It can be purchased up to six months in advance, and is available for 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 journeys.

BY BUS

From the Intermodal Station, located in the heart of the city centre, there are a number of different coach companies that provide regional, national and international services. There are direct connections from Bilbao to San Sebastián-Donostia and Vitoria-Gasteiz, the other two major cities of the Basque Country (Euskadi).
